Hi, I’m Laura - a PhD student interested in understanding the role of aperiodic neural activity in cognition. Aperiodic activity constitutes the counterpart to the well-studied oscillatory rhythms of the brain and may provide unique insights into neuronal population dynamics. Intriguingly, aperiodic patterns are not limited to our brains; they may also characterize behavioral states. In my research, I utilize intracranial EEG recordings from patients with epilepsy and Parkinson’s Disease. Giving us direct access to neural circuits, these datasets are extremely valuable. Whenever I’m not plotting power spectra, you might find me out for a run in East Rock Park or exploring the world with a backpack and some friends.
